I just called the DC office to express my disappointment at his Aye vote. The guy on the phone said that phone calls during the runup to the vote were running roughly 7.5 to 1 AGAINST the bailout (note that the guy on the phone was clearly pro-bailout, so I am sure those figures are skewed in favor of the Ayes). A ratio of 7.5 to 1 works out to 88.2% AGAINST the bill vs. 11.8% for it. **REMEMBER THIS MAN IN 2010.** 90% of NC voters opposed this bill, and he ignored you all. Many of us have suddenly become one-issue voters and we WILL NOT forget. I want some yard signs NOW for the 2010 race. |

4:03pm ET - Just spoke with a staffer in the DC office, who advised the Senator is inclined to support the bill in an effort to keep the financial burden on Wall Street from trickling down to Main Street. I stated my opposition. |

As of 12:30 Wed., Oct. 1, the district office states that Sen. Burr has not stated an "official" position but that he is leaning strongly in favor of the bailout. |

I just called the Washington office (1:30 PM, Mon. Sept. 29) and the guy answering the phone said that Sen. Burr decided "this morning" "because of the Wachovia situation" that he was now supporting the bailout package. From the (obviously scripted, carefully worded) statement that the guy read out to me, it sounded like Sen. Burr was on the fence until a short while ago, so I think calling his office and making your voice heard still has the potential to bring him to the side of fiscal responsibility. Then again, with Wachovia headquartered in NC, this might be a hard sell. They key will be convincing him that our votes in November 2010 will outnumber Wachovia-related votes. So everyone, please make your voice heard! |

Does not take a stand Senator Burr, as of this posting, has not posted on his website any indication as to his support or non-support of the bailout. His only mention, which granted, is at the top of his page, is a PDF file of the pending legislation. So at this time, I am going to mark him as undecided. |

I overheard on the news (after hours...go figure) that Senator Burr is now voting for this measure. I left a message on their Winston Salem number, and sent an e-mail stating my opposition and voicing concern that he could ignore the wishes of his constituents, and take it upon himself to vote against the people of North Carolina. I asked him to publish the yays and nays tally once it was said and done and see how his vote compared with the wishes of North Carolinians. I think its a sign of the man that he couldn't take a stand before office hours closed. The word gormless comes to mind. Whether you like Elizabeth Dole or not, she didn't waiver in her position.
